WHY THE YOUNG TALENT PROGRAM?
This is a new concept, born out of working with several gifted young people who have demonstrated talent that can be nurtured and developed at an early age.
Reading aloud and presentation skills are not taught effectively in public and private schools. Listen to the average adult who is speaking in a public presentation environment. Most people drone through material they are reading aloud with little or no connection to the material they are reading; it is as if they are running on automatic, not manual.
Think of how you learned to read aloud in school, of how many poems, song lyrics, stories, speeches, and the like you learned by rote or by repeated reading, all without a thought of the real meaning, beauty, and significance of the writing. How many times, later in life, did the words come to you at a time when you began to consider their meaning and purpose, and say to yourself, “I can’t believe I never thought about what the writer really had in mind. Now I understand.”
Many aspiring young people who possess promising speech and vocal music gifts are often not able to develop them until much later in life, and have often lost the strong desire they once had to learn these skills. Common sense tells us that when the desire and motivation to learn is strongest, individualized instruction will be the most effective. That is the premise on which this program is based.
