*Please note that all instruction to students in the greater Washington area is now done on Skype. There are no more Basics classes being offered in the Washington/Baltimore area. Please refer to the Webcam Coaching section for further information.

For those new to the voiceover art who have no previous experience, this workshop is a stimulating opportunity to “try it out” in a studio-like situation.

students in classJohn will begin the class with a discourse on where the sources of business lie, the skills needed to do the job, typical session scenarios, fundamentals of script interpretation, and the basics of how to give the producer what he or she wants.

The bulk of the class time will be spent on performance. Participants will be provided with a variety of commercial and narration scripts, and will select or be assigned specific scripts to be performed in the class. The approach to each individual performance will be similar to a true studio session experience, and each read will be preliminarily analyzed, then recorded, played back, critiqued, and refined.

Time will also be devoted to reading over music beds, as this will help each person feel the mood of the script, as well as get a sense of how the final product will sound in playback.

Within two days following the class, John will call each participant individually to render his opinion as to that person’s potential.

students in classThe class serves three purposes: one, to allow each participant to discover his or her comfort level with voiceover performance; two, to receive and respond to professional direction and critique; and three, to use the feedback and subsequent assessment to decide whether or not to pursue a voiceover training program.

Space is limited to 10 students per class

Fee: $100
